Michigan Promise is Going… Going… Gone?
As we’ve stated previously, the Michigan Senate voted to APPROVE the elimination of the Michigan Promise Scholarship in late June. It’s now in the hands of the House of Representatives, and here at michiganspromise.com we’re not holding our collective breath that the House will have the right stuff to put an end to this insanity.
The deficit stands at $1.4 billion dollars, and the $140 million in funds set aside for the scholarship is a tempting, and more importantly, EASY target for legislators who are seemingly more interested in taking their summer vacation than doing what’s right for the state.
My advice is to contact your state government representatives and let them know how you feel. Most of the 96,000 students who will be cut out of this program represent one vote, their parents represent one or two more, and any relative that you can muster is yet another. The numbers add up quickly, and let’s face it, the only things that matter to 90% of the politicians out there are money and votes.
